
Chris Payton-Jones, an American football player who played for the Arizona Cardinals, Minnesota Vikings and Tennessee Titans, died on April 11, 2026, in a traffic collision.
He was 30. A cornerback in the National Football League, Payton-Jones played college football for the Nebraska Cornhuskers and started 26 games over three seasons at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln.
As a junior, he recorded three interceptions, 10 pass breakups and 37 tackles, including three for loss and one sack, and received All-Big Ten honorable mention. He missed the first half of his senior season because of a knee injury. Payton-Jones signed with the Detroit Lions as an undrafted free agent in April 2018 and was waived after training camp that September.
