He began his career at Sony Music Studios in New York in the mid-1990s and worked there until 1998, when he joined Sterling Sound, where he spent 13 years. In 2010, he founded Chris Athens Masters in Austin, Texas.
By 2026, Athens had received six Grammy Award nominations, including recognition for his work on Sony Music 100 Years: Soundtrack for a Century, Drake’s Views and Scorpion, and “God’s Plan,” as well as Ella Mai’s debut album.
