
Amir Hatami, Iranian military officer and commander-in-chief of the Iranian Regular Armed Forces, died on February 28, 2026.
He held the rank of major general and was appointed to the post after the promotion of Abdolrahim Mousavi to chief of the General Staff of the Armed Forces following the assassination of Mohammad Bagheri in the Twelve-Day War. Hatami was also an adviser to the Commander-in-Chief of the Iranian Armed Forces for Army Affairs and formerly served as Iran’s defense minister.
Born in 1966 in Nimowar, a village in Zanjan, he joined the Basij as a volunteer at age 14 and began serving in the Iranian Army Ground Forces in 1984.
Amir Hatami (Persian: امیر حاتمی, born 1966) is an Iranian military officer who serves as the commander-in-chief of the Iranian Regular Armed Forces.
