Akbar Abdi, the Iranian actor and comedian known for work in film and television, died on July 24, 2026, at age 65.

Born in Tehran on August 26, 1960, he began his career in 1981 with the children’s TV series The Traffic Neighborhood and went on to build a long screen career that lasted until 2026. His credits included The Actor, Delshodegan, The Snowman and Ejareh-Nesheenha (The Tenants).

Over the years, Abdi received two Crystal Simorgh awards, along with a Hafez Award and an Iran’s Film Critics and Writers Association Award. He also underwent a kidney transplant in June 2016.
