Born in 1927 in Bampur, Balochistan, he was an Iranian Baloch musician whose work centered on folk and Balochi music. He played the ney in Balochi music until 1983 and traveled widely for performances, including appearances in France and Peru.
Espandar also received an honorary doctorate in traditional music from France and an honorary diploma in musicianship in Iran. His statue, recognizing him as the first donali musician, is housed in the Tehran Museum.
