Kim Jong-im, a North Korean politician and one of the few women to hold senior positions in the country’s government apparatus, died on July 22, 2026.
She was 91. Kim served on the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea and was a member of the Supreme People’s Assembly.
In 1985, she became deputy director of the Party History Institute, an organizational unit of the party’s Central Committee, and in December 2009 she was named head of the institute, succeeding Kim Ki-nam. She was elected to the Central Committee in 2010 and later ranked 41st on the 232-member funeral committee formed after the death of Kim Jong Il in 2011.
