He was 82. Closter played parts of four Major League Baseball seasons between 1966 and 1973, appearing in 21 games for the New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves and Washington Senators.
Born on June 15, 1943, in Creighton, he pitched for the United States national baseball team at the 1964 Summer Olympics, when baseball was a demonstration sport. He also played college baseball at Iowa State University and began his professional career after signing with the Yankees as an amateur free agent before the 1965 season.
