Douglas, a Brazilian footballer best known for his time with Santos and Bahia, died on August 9, 2026, aged 76.
Born in Barretos on September 9, 1949, he was an association football player who operated as both a center forward and a midfielder. His early career began with AZ Negro, a várzea team in Santos, and he joined Santos at 13 after being brought there by goalkeeper Manga.
After progressing through the club’s youth ranks alongside players including Clodoaldo and Negreiros, he signed a professional contract in 1967 and made his debut on April 15, 1968. He later became regarded by Bahia supporters as one of the club’s greatest players.
