Abdul Majid Arfaei Researcher, author, elamitologist dead at age 86

Abdul Majid Arfaei, an Iranian researcher and elamitologist, died on February 25, 2026, at the age of 86.

Also known as Abdul Majid Arfaee, he was born on September 1, 1939, in Bandar Abbas, Hormozgan Province, Iran. He was known for translating 647 tablets related to the era of Darius the Great, which were read by Richard Hallock and included in the first volume of the series.

He was also described as an elamologist and assyriologist, and as a professor at the University of Chicago.

Abdul Majid Arfaei or Abdul Majid Arfaee (Persian: عبدالمجید ارفعی; 1 September 1939 – 25 February 2026) was an Iranian researcher and elamitologist. He finished translating 647 tablets, related to the era of Darius the Great, which were read by Richard Hallock. The works are included in the first volume of the series.
