Walid Khalidi, a Palestinian historian, died on March 8, 2026, at the age of 100.
He wrote extensively on the Palestinian exodus and co-founded the Institute for Palestine Studies in Beirut in December 1963, serving as its general secretary until 2016. Khalidi’s first teaching post was at Oxford, which he resigned from in 1956 in protest at the British invasion of Suez.
He later was professor of political studies at the American University of Beirut until 1982 and a research fellow at the Harvard Center for International Affairs, and he also taught at Princeton University.
