Volodymyr Babayev, a Ukrainian scholar and politician, died on March 14, 2026, at the age of 74.
Born in Kharkiv on January 10, 1952, he served as rector of O. M.
Beketov National University of Urban Economy in Kharkiv from 2011 to 2025 and briefly as acting head of administration of Kharkiv Oblast in 2010. He held a Doctorate in Public Administration and the academic title of professor, both awarded in 2005. Babayev was elected an academician of the Academy of Construction of Ukraine in 2011 and received several Ukrainian honors, including the title of Honored Builder of Ukraine, state prizes in architecture and in science and technology, and the Order of Merit.
