Steve Thel, an American academic and lawyer, died on March 14, 2026.
Born Steven Scott Thel in Tacoma, Washington, on December 28, 1954, he was the son of Albert John Thel and Ruth Muriel McAvoy. He graduated from Radford High School in 1972, earned a BA in economics from the University of North Texas in 1976, and received a JD from Harvard Law School in 1979.
Thel served as the I. Maurice Wormser Professor of Law at Fordham University School of Law from 1992 to 2025 and was a visiting professor at Cornell Law School from 1992 to 1993.
