Samīra al-Māni’, an Iraqi writer and novelist, died on June 19, 2026, at the age of 91.

Born in Basra in 1935, she received a BA in Arabic literature from the University of Baghdad before moving to London in 1965. There she later earned a diploma in librarianship from Ealing Technical College in 1976.

In 1985, she co-founded al-Ightirab al-adabi, a literary journal for Iraqi exiles, and in 1990 took part in the International Writing Program at the University of Iowa and the International Festival of Authors in Toronto. Her short stories were translated into English and Dutch.
