Robert Poinard, a French priest, journalist and chaplain, died on September 8, 2026, aged 77.
Born in Saint-Étienne on October 19, 1948, he spent 12 years as a journalist with Le Dauphiné libéré and La Croix before his ordination to the priesthood on September 18, 1977. He later served as chaplain to several military schools and was named vicar general of the Diocese of the French Armed Forces in 2008 by Pope Benedict XVI.
Poinard was made a Knight of the Legion of Honour in 2014 and published annotated notebooks of a World War I soldier in 2016.
