
Riccardo Fontana, the Italian bishop who served as Archbishop-Bishop of the Diocese of Arezzo-Cortona-Sansepolcro, died on February 9, 2026, at the age of 79.
Born in Forte dei Marmi, Tuscany, on January 20, 1947, he was ordained a priest on July 2, 1972. Fontana was appointed Archbishop of Spoleto-Norcia in 1995 and received episcopal consecration in St.
Peter’s Basilica on January 6, 1996. He served in Spoleto-Norcia until 2009, then led the Diocese of Arezzo-Cortona-Sansepolcro until his retirement in 2022. He died in Arezzo, Tuscany.
