Raimundo Carrero, a Brazilian journalist and writer, died on June 16, 2026, at age 78.

Born in Salgueiro, Pernambuco, in 1947, he went on to study at the Federal University of Pernambuco and built a long career in Recife, where he worked for more than 25 years at Diario de Pernambuco. Carrero became known from the 1970s onward through his involvement in the Armorial Movement, which sought to draw on the culture of northeastern Brazil, and later taught at UFPE from 1971 to 1996.

He also founded a literary creation workshop in Recife that helped train younger writers. Among his honors was the Sao Paulo Prize for Literature in 2010 for A minha alma é irmã de Deus, and he was also recognized with the Prêmio Jabuti.
