Phil Woolas, a British politician, died on March 14, 2026, at the age of 66.

A member of the Labour Party, he served as Member of Parliament for Oldham East and Saddleworth from 1997 to 2010 and was Minister of State for Borders and Immigration from 2008 to 2010. Before entering Parliament, he was president of the National Union of Students, a producer for BBC programme Newsnight and an official at the GMB trade union.

Born Philip James Woolas in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire, he studied at Nelson Grammar School, Nelson and Colne College and the Victoria University of Manchester.

Philip James Woolas (11 December 1959 – 14 March 2026) was a British environmental consultant, political lobbyist, television producer and politician who served as Minister of State for Borders and Immigration from 2008 to 2010. A member of the Labour Party, he was Member of Parliament (MP) for Oldham East and Saddleworth from 1997 to 2010.
