Christof Straub, the Austrian musician who co-founded the Vienna-based duo Papermoon, died on September 13, 2026, aged 57.
Straub started the guitar-and-vocals act in 1991 with singer Edina Thalhammer, helping establish a group that became known for its acoustic Austropop, folk and pop sound. After Papermoon’s song “Night After Night” received frequent airplay on Austria’s Ö3 radio station, the duo signed a recording contract in 1992, and its first album went double platinum with sales of more than 100,000 copies.
Papermoon later released nine albums and remained identified with the Vienna music scene.
