
Palmerston, the resident Chief Mouser of the UK’s Foreign & Commonwealth Office, died on February 12, 2026, aged 11–12.
A black-and-white tuxedo cat, he was born in 2014 and came from Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. Palmerston held the post for four years, from 2016 until his retirement in 2020.
He briefly returned to service in 2025, when he was taken to Bermuda with Andrew Murdoch, his owner since retirement, after Murdoch became Governor of Bermuda.
