Battiati in Sant’Agata li Battiati, became the senior team leader at 15 under trainer Enzo Fazio, and was signed by Calcio Catania at 18. He played in Catania’s youth team until 1992, when coach Giuseppe Caramanno called him into the Serie C1 side. In his first Serie C1 season, he made five appearances, then played 25 matches and scored two goals in 1992–93.
