Luciana Novaes, a Brazilian social worker, politician and Rio de Janeiro city councilwoman, died on April 27, 2026, at the age of 42.
Novaes, who was affiliated with the Workers’ Party, was elected three times as a city councilor in Rio de Janeiro and was known for her legislative work on behalf of people with disabilities. Born Luciana Gonçalves de Novaes in Nilópolis, in Rio de Janeiro state, she spent much of her political career in the state capital.
