La Academia, the Mexican reality musical talent television series shown on TV Azteca, died on February 25, 2026.
The program premiered in June 2002 and was in its thirteenth installment. It shared the competition format of many versions of the global “Star Academy” franchise, though it was not affiliated with Endemol.
In its early seasons, La Academia was a strong ratings performer and outpaced Televisa’s Operación Triunfo Mexico in several countries, including Chile, Peru and Venezuela. The series was later franchised to Azerbaijan, Malaysia, Indonesia, the United States, Paraguay, Singapore, Thailand, Central America and Greece.
