Born Kim Marie Johnson on April 8, 1976, in Pittsburgh, she was the youngest child of Edward Frank Johnson and Caroline Ella Johnson. She was raised in Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania, and attended Wilkinsburg High School.
In her senior year, she completed the Youth Competencies Program, sponsored by the Allegheny County Department of Federal Programs. She also attended PennWest California. Johnson won the Miss Pennsylvania USA pageant and went on to represent Pennsylvania at the Miss USA competition. Her work as a model and actress spanned 1993 to 2026.
