
Kay Denman, an Australian politician and former schoolteacher, died on April 23, 2026.
She was 88. Denman was a Senator for Tasmania from 1993 to 2005, representing the Australian Labor Party.
Born in Latrobe, Tasmania, and raised in Railton, she attended Railton Primary School and Devonport High School before graduating from the University of Tasmania with a Bachelor of Education and a Diploma of Special Education. She taught school from 1958 to 1961 and again from 1964 to 1989, after a break in which she had two children. Denman was appointed to the Senate in August 1993 to fill a casual vacancy and later served as Deputy Government Whip, Deputy Opposition Whip, and chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Senators’ Interests.
