Born Jorge Manuel de Abreu Palma in Lisbon on June 4, 1950, he became one of Portugal’s best-known and most acclaimed songwriters. Palma began his solo career in 1972 after starting his career in 1967, and spent time busking in cities abroad before returning to Portugal in 1982.
He reached major success in the late 1980s with songs including “Deixa-me Rir” and “Frágil,” and later had another notable hit in 2007 with “Encosta-te a Mim.” He was also associated with the groups Sindicato, Rio Grande, Cabeças no Ar and his project Palma’s Gang.
