More about Vítor Murta

Gender: male.

Occupation: lawyer.

Vítor Jorge Fonseca Murta, a Portuguese sports executive who led Boavista, died of a heart attack on October 16, 2026, aged 50.

He served as president of Boavista F.C. from 2018 to 2025, having previously been the club’s vice president during João Loureiro’s tenure.

Murta was elected in December 2018, after Loureiro chose not to seek re-election, receiving 334 of the 441 valid votes cast. A lawyer specializing in tax law, Murta also headed the club’s Sociedade Anónima Desportiva, its corporate football entity, from 2020 through 2024. That appointment came after Luxembourgish businessman Gérard López bought Boavista in October 2020. Murta described the investment as a way to restore the club’s competitiveness while preserving its identity. As part of his election campaign, he pledged to include Litos in the sporting-director team. Litos, a former Boavista player, had won the Primeira Liga with the club in 2000–01. Two months after López’s purchase, the Panteras Negras supporters’ group broke off relations with the board following a poor start to the season. Murta’s time in office thus included both leadership of the club and a separate senior role in its corporate football operation.
