Clara Joana de Oliveira Vitorino, the Portuguese actress professionally known as Clara Joana, died October 17, 2026, aged 85.

Interested in theatre from a young age, she performed first in high school and with amateur groups before beginning professional work. In 1959, she enrolled at both the Faculty of Letters at the University of Lisbon and the National Conservatory, though she did not complete courses at either institution. Her professional stage career began in 1961 at the National Cultural Centre, following work with Pedro Bom, the pseudonym of José Manuel da Fonseca, a translator, playwright and director who had founded the Lisbon Experimental Theatre Group.
