He was 94. Born in Detroit on July 19, 1931, to a Greek family, he graduated from high school in that city before entering the U.S.
Army. He later attended the United States Military Academy at West Point, earning a bachelor’s degree in engineering in 1954, and went on to receive a master’s degree in government and politics from the University of Maryland in 1971. Pappageorge also attended the U.S. Army War College in 1973.
