Horace Casey, an American electrical engineer, died on June 9, 2026, at age 91.
Born Horace Craig Casey Jr. in Texas, he earned a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Oklahoma State University in 1957 before continuing his studies at Stanford University, where he received a master’s degree in 1959 and a doctorate in 1964.
While at Stanford, he worked for Hewlett-Packard in Palo Alto from 1957 to 1962, then joined the technical staff of Lucent Technologies, where he remained from 1964 to 1979. Casey went on to teach in the department of electrical engineering at Duke University from 1979 to 2002. During that period, he also served on the board of directors of Acme Electronics from 1984 to 1991 and was named a fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers in 1984 for his contributions to III-V compounds and emission understanding.
