Lawrence, died on September 12, 2026, aged 77. Born in London on July 26, 1949, he built a long career in British and international cinema after beginning work in film in the mid-1970s.
Thomas founded and chaired Recorded Picture Company and became one of the leading producers of his generation. His production of Bernardo Bertolucci’s The Last Emperor won the Academy Award for Best Picture in 1988, and in 2006 he received the European Film Award for Outstanding European Achievement in World Cinema. He was the son of director Ralph Thomas, and came from a filmmaking family that also included his uncle, Gerald Thomas.
