Born in 1927 and the son of Paul Jouët, he was part of a family enterprise that began with the 1920 founding of the Chantier Naval de Sartrouville by his father and Antoine Blondeau. The yard later became Paul Jouët et Cie and, after Jouët graduated from École Centrale, he took over its management in 1951.
Under his direction, the company moved from traditional wooden construction to molded wood and polyester, a transition that helped bring sailing to a wider French public through boats such as the Golif and the Bélouga.
