Born Jane Ann Sell in Detroit on October 1, 1939, she built a career in theater that included performances in both Broadway and off-Broadway productions, along with appearances in film and television. She won the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical for “Over Here!,” and later appeared in shows including “George M!,” “I Love My Wife,” “Irene,” “Dames at Sea” and a revival of “Pal Joey.” In 1979, she appeared off-Broadway in Kurt Vonnegut’s “God Bless You, Mr.
Rosewater,” and in the mid-1990s she filled in for Carol Burnett in Wednesday matinee performances of “Moon Over Buffalo.”
