Baker, the Australian journalist, author and broadcaster, died on July 31, 2026, aged 74. A leading voice on rock music, he wrote books and magazine articles on music and travel, interviewed celebrities, managed bands including Ol’ 55 and helped promote tours by international stars.
He served as the Australian editor of Billboard for more than 20 years and in the mid-1980s won the BBC’s “Rock Brain of the Universe” title three times. Baker was also recognised for his travel writing, winning the inaugural Australian Travel Writer of the Year award in 1995 and again in 2000.
