Geoff Ablett public figure dead at age 71

Geoff Ablett

Geoff Ablett, the Australian rules footballer who played for Hawthorn, Richmond and St Kilda, died on May 5, 2026, from complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

He was 71. Ablett played in the Victorian Football League during the 1970s and 1980s, spending most of his career with Hawthorn, where he played 202 games on the wing.

He later served on Casey City Council and was elected mayor of the City of Casey in December 2008 and again in 2013.
