
Emily Grosholz, an American poet and philosopher, died on May 2, 2026, at age 75.
Born in Philadelphia in 1950, she was Edwin Erle Sparks Professor of Philosophy, African American Studies and English at Pennsylvania State University and a member of the Center for Fundamental Theory / Institute for Gravitation and the Cosmos there. Grosholz was the 2011 Elizabeth McNulty Wilkinson ’25 Poetry Chair at Buffalo Seminary and served as a senior researcher at REHSEIS / SPHERE / CNRS and the University of Paris Diderot – Paris 7 from September 2011 through January 2012.
