Craig Douglas, the English singer who enjoyed his greatest success in the late 1950s and early 1960s, died on September 4, 2026, aged 85.
Born Terence Perkins in Newport on August 13, 1941, he began his career in 1959 and became widely known under the stage name given to him by manager Bunny Lewis. A former milkman, he was dubbed the “Singing Milkman” and went on to top the UK chart with “Only Sixteen” in 1959, his sole British number one, which outsold Sam Cooke’s original version in Britain.
He was also voted Best New Singer by NME in 1959 and recorded a string of cover versions among his nine Top 40 UK singles.
