
Charles Strouse, an American composer and lyricist, died on May 15, 2025.
He was 96. Strouse was best known for writing the music to the Broadway musicals Bye Bye Birdie, Applause, and Annie.
Born in New York City on June 7, 1928, he worked in Broadway musical and opera from 1952 to 2011. He began a collaboration with Lee Adams in 1952, and their work led to Bye Bye Birdie, which opened in 1960. For that show, Strouse won his first Tony Award in the category of best musical.
