Beatrice Lumpkin, an American union organizer, activist, professor and writer, died on June 15, 2026, at the age of 107.

Born Beatrice Shapiro on August 3, 1918, in The Bronx, she became a labor organizer and academic whose work ranged from union activism to writing on history and mathematics. She was a member of the Communist Party and the Chicago Teachers Union, organized for several other unions, and later taught as a tenured professor at Malcolm X College.

Lumpkin also helped found the Coalition of Labor Union Women and published books including Always Bring a Crowd, Joy in the Struggle and Algebra Activities from Many Cultures.
