Alfonso Lizarazo, the Colombian television host and politician who later served in the Senate, died on August 4, 2026, aged 85.
Born Alfonso Lizarazo Sánchez in Bucaramanga, he began his career in radio at 15 and went on to become the first host of Campeones de la risa, the comedy program that was renamed Sábados Felices in 1973. He presented and directed the show until 1998, when he was elected to the Senate of Colombia, serving from 1998 to 2002.
Lizarazo also hosted and curated El Festival Internacional del Humor, a televised comedy showcase recorded in Bogotá and broadcast across Latin America.
