Alan Ward, the English cricketer who played for Derbyshire, Leicestershire and the England Test side, died on June 15, 2026, at the age of 78.
Born in Dronfield on August 10, 1947, he made his first-class debut for Derbyshire in 1966 and went on to play five Tests between 1969 and 1976. A fast right-arm bowler, Ward enjoyed his best form in 1969, when he topped the English first-class averages, and he was later selected for the 1970 series against The Rest of the World side.
He spent more than a decade with Derbyshire before moving to Leicestershire in 1977, and his final Test appearance came against the West Indies in 1976.
