Jerry de Jong, the Surinamese-born Dutch footballer who played for Telstar, MVV and the Netherlands national team, died on June 15, 2026, aged 61.
Born in Paramaribo on August 29, 1964, he played as a defender or defensive midfielder and built a 17-year professional career that took him to seven clubs, including PSV Eindhoven and one side in France. He began in the second division with Telstar and SC Heerenveen before his performances earned him a move to PSV in 1989.
De Jong, also known as Jerry Murrien de Jong, was the father of former Netherlands international Nigel de Jong.
