Federico l’Olandese Volante, the Dutch-born Italian radio host, died on October 9, 2026, aged 76.

Born Frederik Matthijs Van Stegeren in Deventer, the Netherlands, he grew up there and often visited Lake Garda. In 1969, he enrolled in architecture at the University of Amsterdam, before turning to broadcasting in Italy, where he began as a disc jockey on the country’s independent radio stations.

In 1972, he joined Noel Coutisson, founder of Radio Monte Carlo, and moved to Monaco to work at the station. His colleagues there included Herbert Pagani, Awanagana, Luisella Berrino and Roberto Arnaldi. Van Stegeren went on to work at Radio Milano International and Radio 105, and became a familiar voice at RTL 102.5, where his tenure ran from 1983 to 2011. Known professionally by the nickname Federico l’Olandese Volante, he also worked as a record producer and television personality. His career connected Italian radio audiences with a broadcaster who had arrived from the Netherlands and made his professional home in Italy. He died in Monopoli.
