Tomáš Čermák, the Czech engineer and rector of VSB – Technical University of Ostrava, died on May 22, 2026, at the age of 83.
He led the university during two periods, from 1990 to 1997 and again from 2003 to 2010. Čermák was born in Ostrava on February 8, 1943.
He graduated from Brno University of Technology in 1964 with a degree from the faculty of electrical engineering and later held academic and leadership posts at VSB – Technical University of Ostrava.
