Born in Třebíč on September 18, 1944, he was also sometimes known as Miloš Kopečný. His family came from Nové Dvory, where his father built the family home and a cannery.
In Třebíč, Kopečný took part in amateur theater under director Josef Gerža, working alongside Jiří Pecha and Karel Pospíšil. The town was also where he attended gymnasium. He went on to study dramatic acting at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno, graduating in 1965. Kopečný’s best-known role was the Banker in Bony a klid and its sequel, Bony a klid 2. The films’ two titles mark the original and its follow-up, and the Banker is the character most closely associated with his acting in them. Kopečný was married and had three children.
