Tim Read, an Australian politician and former general practitioner and medical researcher, died on September 19, 2026, aged 64.
He represented the Victorian Legislative Assembly seat of Brunswick from November 2018 and sat with the Victorian Greens, serving as the party’s spokesperson for Health, Justice, Integrity and Science. Born in Melbourne in 1962, Read studied at the University of Melbourne, where he completed a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery degree.
He later worked in community health centres, and from 1998 served as a sexual health physician and medical coordinator at the Melbourne Sexual Health Centre’s HIV clinic, while also working at the Royal Melbourne Hospital from 2005. His PhD focused on the epidemiology of sexually transmitted infections.
