Soledad Gallego-Díaz

Soledad Gallego-Díaz, the Spanish journalist and former editor of El País, died on May 5, 2026.

Born in Madrid in 1951, she studied at the Official School of Journalism of Madrid and worked for Pyresa and Cuadernos para el Diálogo before joining El País shortly after the newspaper was founded in 1976. She served as editor of the paper from June 2018 to June 2020 and was a correspondent in Brussels, Paris, London, Buenos Aires and New York.
