
René Groebli, a Swiss photographer known for his artistic photo-books, industrial and advertising photography, photojournalism and photo-illustration, died on May 5, 2026, at the age of 98.
Born in Zurich on Oct. 9, 1927, he was also noted for his expressionistic photo-books and his expertise in dye transfer and colour printing.
Groebli began an apprenticeship as a photographer with Theo Vonow in Zurich in 1944 and later trained as a documentary cameraman at Central Film and Gloria Film Zürich, graduating in 1948, though he did not go on to work as a cinematographer.
