Born in Bellinzona in 1944, he began his career in 1969 at the Technical Cooperation Service of Switzerland’s Department of Foreign Affairs. He later served as deputy director at the Inter-American Development Bank until 1992, and from 2001 onward he held the post of executive director at the World Bank.
Veglio was also a visiting professor at the University of St. Gallen.
