Juraj Hraško, a Slovak politician and diplomat, died on September 28, 2026, aged 95.
Born in Točnica on May 14, 1931, he was widely regarded as a founder of modern Slovak pedology and played a leading role in building the country’s soil science institutions. He established and long directed the Research Institute of Soil Science and Plant Nutrition in Bratislava, later became a full member of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, and served as Slovakia’s minister of environment in 1994.
He also represented Slovakia as ambassador to Switzerland.
