Rene Belmonte, a Brazilian screenwriter whose work included If I Were You, Novo Mundo and Federal Bank Heist, died on May 25, 2026.
He was 55. Born on January 27, 1971, in São Paulo, Belmonte studied advertising at ESPM in São Paulo and later studied moviewriting in London at City Lit.
After moving to Rio de Janeiro in 2001, he worked at Total Entertainment for three years, evaluating and developing projects in-house. Since 1999, he also gave screenwriting courses and workshops for schools and other organizations.
